krocke apartment, barcelona
This apartment, of 299 m2, is located on the Paseo de Sant Joan in Barcelona, very close to its intersection with Avenida Diagonal. It is an attic that occupies the entire floor of the property, which, despite being a building of the 70s, has a configuration very similar to the typical buildings of the early twentieth century Ensanche, with a facade onto the street and another onto the inner block yard, two interior central courtyards and two side common courtyards.
The purpose of the remodelling is to transform it into the residence of a foreign couple without children who spend time in the city. The enjoyment of the wide space available - now fragmented into small spaces -, the good sunlight conditions or the charm of the rear terrace are elements that guide the redistribution of the home.
The southeast half of the apartment becomes the day zone and the northeast half the night zone. The communication between the pieces of each one of the halves is done through elements of flexible use, such as the entrance hall, in the day zone, or the work and storage area, in the night zone. On the other hand, between the day area and the night area there are three passing spaces that allow for the articulation of the whole without resorting to the corridors: a work space in the front facade, the kitchen between one of the inner courtyards and the staircase, and the library in the back area. Thanks to these mechanisms of relationship, the distribution is clear and allows a wide versatility in the routes between the various rooms.
