avenue of the banús, santa coloma de gramenet
original
The purpose of the project is to remodel a stretch of about 280 m in length of the avenue of the Banús, in the municipality of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, in order to make it more comfortable for residents and improve their spatial qualities. It involves some elements of infrastructure as well as those of paving, furniture or services, and it implies an almost complete renovation of the road.
In its original state, the avenue - 20 m wide - had a traffic lane in each direction and sidewalks not exceeding 2 m, with battery car parks on either side of the road. The vehicles not only occupied most of the available space but also defined the chaotic image of the street.
The new section proposed by the project optimizes the available space and improves the conditions of use for pedestrians. It maintains a lane of traffic in each direction but broadly doubles the surface of the sidewalks, which are more than 4 m wide. The new parking space takes the form of a lanyard on each side of the road.
The intervention involves the complete renovation of the infrastructural elements: part of the sewerage is improved and new underground networks of public lighting, irrigation, fibre optics and traffic lights are being built, updating installations that had become obsolete.
For curbs between the sidewalk and the roadway, as well as for pedestrian or vehicle ramps, natural granite stone was used in substitution of the prefabricated concrete elements that existed. A row of trees is arranged on each of the sidewalks - non-existent in the original state -, the lighting elements are renewed with the introduction of more energy-efficient LED luminaires and benches and bins are placed.
This set of operations substantially improves the environmental quality of the area, favours the accessibility of people with reduced mobility and facilitates that users can enjoy meeting and relationship spaces that they did not previously have.
